Summer always makes me feel free. Summer is road trips and suntans. It’s sand between the toes and palm trees swaying in the breeze. Most importantly, summer is when my birthday comes around. This past year my goal for myself has been focusing on productivity and living a happier, healthier, less stressful life. (I’m going to guess I’m not the only one with these New Year’s Resolutions.) I’m happy to report that as I gear up to turn 26 and officially kiss my early twenties goodbye, I think I’ve managed to live up to my goal. Here are a few of my summer favorites that have helped me along the way.
SKINCARE. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve finally passed half-way point to 30 or that I’ve learned about how much damage my skin endured all those summers I got crazy sunburns, either way skincare has become my new mantra and this is one of my go-tos.
You’ve most likely already seen the hundreds, if not thousands, of charcoal peel off mask videos where some poor soul has applied a charcoal mask to their whole face and then very painfully tries to remove it while also not ripping their own face off. Ouch.
If for some reason these videos have inspired you to try the mask or you’re just all about clearing out the pores, my favorite mask is the Elizavecca Hell-Pore Charcoal Mask.
Pro tip: Only apply the mask to your problem areas. Think nose, T-Zone and chin. This will minimize pain and keep the more sensitize parts of your face protected.
One thing I’ve struggled with trying to live healthier is managing my eating, especially when I’m at work where it’s all too easy to grab cookies from the break room or indulge in the McDonald’s nugget life for lunch rather than packing a healthy lunch.
I’ve found one thing that helps me is tracking my intake, so I’m more aware of what I’m putting in my body. My new favorite app for this is Lifesum, which also let’s you record your water intake and exercise for the day. On top of that, Lifesum takes some of the effort out of finding healthy meals. With pre-made eating plans that cater to different tastes and goals, Lifesum provides you with delicious recipes and a shopping list to help make healthy eating a little easier. Best of all, Lifesum offers many of it’s features for free. For $44.99 a year or $21.99 for a 3 month period, you can get all the upgraded benefits as well.
I’ve actually been a fan of Rubin’s podcast for awhile now, but haven’t been able to listen to it much in the past few months. I decided to incorporate it back into my routine as I get ready for the day and I couldn’t be happier.

Shout out to my friend Megan for introducing me to this tangerine tinted lip balm from Benefit. I have worn this everywhere this summer. Most of the time it’s the only makeup I bother to throw on at all. It keeps my lips moisturized and soft while also providing just enough of a kick of color to brighten things up without having to be a statement shade. 10/10 recommend.
